2010 marks the 200th anniversary of famed composer Frederic Chopin. As one of the landmark classical music festivals in Malaysia, the HSBC Classics joins other prestigious festivals all over the world to celebrate of the works of this renowned Polish composer.
HSBC Classics Chopin dan lain lain will take place from 7 – 10 July at klpac. Just as the title implies, the festival will have a strong Chopin influence with a few surprises along the way.
The festival is kicked off on 7 July with a rather unusual but exciting combination, a cello octet named Fuegokoori: Cellish led by Robert Choi that will be performing an eclectic mix of classical as well as Latin numbers. This is followed by a lively Chopin lecture recital by well-known Malaysian pianists and educators, Ng Chong Lim and Loo Bang Hean, on 8 July.
Without a doubt, the highlight of this year’s HSBC Classics Chopin dan lain lain is the Chopin Concerto concert on 9 and 10 July which features guest pianist Grace Lau from Hong Kong backed by the klpac Orchestra. For the first time also, the concert will also feature a whole host of arias from famous operas performed by soprano Jeffie Leung from Hong Kong and Malaysian tenor Tan Wei Han.
Under the HSBC Classics Chopin dan lain lain, there will also be masterclasses for vocal, cello and piano.
