After much positive feedback from the audience in 2009, the third Buto Festival presented by Nyoba Kan will be back to thrill audience from 5 to 15 August.
One of the highlights of the two-week event is The Lost Testimony of RASHOMON, the result of a collaboration between Japan Buto Master Yukio Waguri and Nyoba Kan members. It will take place at The Actors Studio @ Lot 10.
Buto is a form of postmodern contemporary dance.
It came out of a collision between Eastern and Western cultures as well as a response formulated by Japanese writers and artists to the post-World War Two economic, social and clutural climate in Japan.
Nyoba Kan Buto (Kuala Lumpur) inherited the reformist spirit of this revolutionanry movement that showcases ugliness and indecency, while integrating it with philosophies of yoga, Buddhism, qigong, modern dance and other art forms in its ongoing meditation on inner wisdom and universal compassion and mercy.
